Spatial Wire Cutting, ETH Zurich, 2015
Elective Course (4CP)
During this semester, the students will explore the architectural potentials of spatial robotic wire cutting, a technique which facilitates the cutting of double curved objects with a significantly reduced number of iterations. Through computational simulation and robotic fabrication we will investigate different typologies of non-standard geometries and their potential in the aggregation of larger structures. As such, the students will learn how to generate and articulate geometrically complex designs through programming robotic fabrication rules. Physical prototypes will be produced using a robotic setup of two cooperating six-axis lightweight robotic arms that control the curvature of a hot wire.
