Chia-Hsuan Chao (JosHsuan) is a computational designer, architectural engineer, and maker, currently working as a research assistant at Gramazio Kohler Research. He completed the Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich in 2024, focusing on digital workflows that integrate motion capture (MoCap) technology and extended reality (XR) to enhance the design-to-assembly process for bending-active structures.
In 2018, JosHsuan received his Diploma in Landscape Architecture with dual honors from the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) and the Taiwan Institute of Landscape Architects (TILA). He later earned a Master of Science in Architecture from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, in 2020, with his thesis titled "Bending-Active Metal Panel Deformation: Control through Computational Simulation and Pattern Development," which was presented at the CAADRIA Conference in 2023.
With previous experience as an architectural curtain wall engineer and fabrication facilities manager in Taiwan, JosHsuan has been involved in complex modeling and detailed design. Since 2015, he has specialized in integrating digital technologies across design-to-fabrication projects.
