Aleksandra Anna (Ania) Apolinarska is a senior Postdoctoral researcher at Gramazio Kohler Research (GKR) at ETH Zurich and within the NCCR Digital Fabrication programme. Since 2013 she has launched and lead a number of research and industry collaboration projects and has been promoted 2019 to join GKR’s Executive Board.
In her current research, Ania is investigating applications of machine learning to augment the design process, the use of augmented reality in assembly of timber structures, as well as computational design methods that address complex interrelations between multiple design objectives such as geometry, structural performance and robotic fabrication.
Ania studied architecture at University of Stuttgart and Poznan University of Technology, and holds a Doctor of Sciences degree from ETH Zurich for her PhD Thesis on “Complex Timber Structures from Simple Elements”, completed 2018.
Ania is also a registered architect with an extensive experience in computational design of geometrically complex buildings, gathered throughout several years of professional career in offices across Europe, incl. Foster+Partners, designtoproduction, LAVA and UNStudio.
